DI is not without issues.. look it up and unfortunately this informative video lacks in informing of carbon buildup and injectors failing much more often.

Direct injection is not better for engine health. It gunks up the heads faster. Gasoline is corrosive so having port injection the gas flows over the intake valves and cleans them... port injected engines last a lot longer than direct injected engines... not to mention direct injected engines have crazy high fuel pressure, up to 15,000. They will say oh it cools the cylinder wall and does this to make you think they are doing it for reliability reasons when in reality they are trading longevity for couple mpg

I wish Subaru's all future models are equipped with six-cylinder boxer engines. The constellation with the six-cylinder boxer engine basically means a vibration-free internal combustion piston engine. In addition, I think that the six-cylinder boxer engine creates a pleasant and harmonious sound (Porsche), which comes out of the exhaust pipe. The only disadvantage of a six-cylinder boxer engine compared to a four-cylinder boxer engine is a higher production cost.

this is the 2nd video tonight that says the crank hp is power to the wheels aka what you would measure on a dyno , both on 4 wheel drive cars. Someone may be disappointed when they find out 25% less on an actual 4 wheel drive dyno after all parasitic drive and rotational momentum losses.

Has anyone tested the limits to the 2.4L yet? I would LOVE to se the sti get it because that means the outback can get all the same mods. Oh boi. A 350+ hp wagon would be sweet. Lower that bittie a good 2ins and put some sweet wheels on it. Oh gawd, 2020 outback "sti" here i come.

DI injection is old hat for many competitors at this point. Subaru is playing catch up and knew they had to do it as well for the fuel economy gains as well as the increased power it provides. What is the downside? Manufacturers are not very good at telling owners in their owners manuals that they need to clean their cylinder valves from carbon buildup. Some DI engines still spray both port and direct, and those don't have as much carbon buildup over time. In any case, to be safe, every 30,000 miles one should clean their valves with BG products or something similar to make sure the carbon does not build up and reduce engine power and performance.

Not only the dual fuel injection system is good for cold starts but it also helps to reduce carbon build up on the intake valve.

So what you’re basically saying is all the soccer moms out there right now the endurance testers....lol 😝 Subarus well they’re like giant Legos anyway trust me look what I drive there in my little picture, I daily drive the 3.6 flat six and I skated by all the dang oil issues, Head gasket issues ect..

Great and entertaining video...but with one small nit pick about the new connecting rods being better able to handle the combustion pressures. Granted they're much beefier, but the combustion pressure isn't what makes a rod fail. Even the crappiest rod is able to withstand the compressive force the engine can make, the failures happen in two ways most of the time. At the end of the exhaust stroke the piston must be stopped then pulled back downward all by the cap and rod bolts.... the rest of the time there's force pushing the rod into the crank and the cap does little work. On an over-rev the rod bolts can stretch and this is why bearings spin when they're no longer being compressed within the big end. The other way is when the rod bends and this is often because the little end tightens up and won't allow the articulation needed to go up and down. Detonation can deform the piston pin bore and seize the pin which will destroy a pressed type pin, but a full floating type still can live because it will continue to move in the rod end...but this has limitations and when the pin can't turn any more the rod bends back and forth a few times until it snaps. Stretching a rod can let the piston hit the head which will tighten the little end and break the rod too. Big beefy rods have lots of room for big beefy bolts...which is good.

4:11 Direct fuel injection cools the cylinder walls... but spraying the cylinder walls with fuel will wash the oil film away. I think there may be an issue here.

All subarus share a variation on a similar block The ea series (pre ej) had a 1.6 and a 1.8 version and a 6 cylinder version of the ea called the ER27 then you had the ej series that had a range of sizes with the same block just cylinder bores ranging from 1.6L to 2.5L You can take turbo heads off of a 2008 wrx and put them on your 1.6L 1992 impreza block and it will run with an ecu flash or a dohc spec computer and the computor will think it's just business as usual lol. I have an 99 outback sport and it only ever came with a ej16/ej18/ej22 and i have a 2.5L ej253 in my outback sport running on the stock ecu because almost every subaru engine is the same as long as they have the same type of heads (sohc or dohc) Saying that the wrx and the Forester have the same motor is the same as it has always been. Just different internals, manifolds, heads, and other minor stuff.

2:30 400whp? That has to be bhp. Subaru makes these huge claims and deliveries short 100% of the time. The current STI is ~(245whp/240ftlb). Wait for the dyno numbers. That being said I'm not going to lie, I'll be first in line when they start accepting down payments.

I like the video & Scubarus. BUT Today we're gonna talk about Subaru's new motor (basically a lengthy commercial...I hope we're getting a kick back from Subaru?) But 1st a word from our sponsor that's not Subaru. Ok back to your commercial that you actually chose & wanted to watch...now here comes the good part BAM ad. Times 3-6 throughout your lengthy video commercial. ;) Kinda wish he would have covered a lil bit on the oil & antifreeze channels etc / the old motor leak points like gaskets etc. They still need to make an SVX & STI/WRX lower longer wheelbase legacy wagon like the old rare Legacy Grand Tourer Spec-B. Does the FA24 have the same Catalytic converter setups as the old motors, cuz the price has tripled on the cats because all the old cars are starting to need new ones again....

Like Ford keeping flat head 8s for 35 years. This is still a maintenance issue engine. The transmission is still junk. Like Ford owners they deny the problems and give them to their kids or park them in the field next to the other Fords they couldn't fix. Definitely a branding issue like Starbucks and birkenstocks.

I drive a 2015 STi with 404hp & 480ftq everyday. I have 30K miles on that time and it’s a peach. It’s as simple as a high-quality AOS equal length headers and a flex fuel kit. Those three mods alone will lower the chance of detonation significantly. E85 is the most important one of the three as it really cools down the cylinder walls every time the injector spray. That’s really why E85 is able to make so much power. Last but not least get a proper pro tune and you should be fine like me. I’m running 23.5 psi of boost and when I do my data logging by way of a Cobb acsessport I’m not seeing any knock. Knock on wood

Whether it’s the FA’s bent connecting rods or the EJ’s piston ring-lands cracking, both fail due to premature fuel detonation. Which is directly related to cylinder temperature, poor fuel quality, lack of maintenance and in some cases people just not knowing how to drive a manual transmission; and would continually bog the engine. All of these things are the cause of knock in Subaru’s boxer engines. ( STi Ownership 101)

An often made mistake is to consider Boxer and flat engines one and the same, when they aren't actually. In a flat engine (not a boxer), a pairs of pistons share a crankpin. In a true boxer engine, every piston has its own crankpin. The result of the boxer motor’s use of individual crankpins is that the pistons on either side move opposite one another, which helps to cancel out engine vibration. The back-and-forth motion of the pistons resembles the punches of a boxer, which is where the engine gets its name.

Boxer engines are actually flawed, ask any honest mechanic. Boxer engines generally have gasket leaks at 30K miles. GDI engines have excessive carbon buildup at 10K miles. This is the worst combination of engine designs. A new way to do planned obselesence.

It's a very detailed video. Im a subaru fan with a 2013 wrx pumpkin limited edition. I like both the EJ and the FA, but another area that we need to look is the offset of the connecting rod. While the ones on the EJ are dead top center, the one in the FA sit in an angle. That puts pressure on a single area of the connecting rod. If you put both connecting rod next to each other, you can see the difference. Other than that everything else is great.

no offense man, but I had to put on the captions to more or less understand what you were saying. I could mostly understand what you were saying, but you were saying it so fast, a lot of the words ran together.... 0.75x speed was too slow, so I used kept it at normal speed and just turned on captions. I normally watch donut.media stuff at 1.25x to get through the babble more quickly, but not this time. Nothing wrong with Subaru changing the motor in their "flagship" car as it way overdue. With as many issues the EJ (EJ25) had, I'm surprised it lasted this long. At least the FA24DIT got seat time in the Ascent so some of the minor hick-ups could be worked out; however, only time will tell how the extra power affects the engine.

Jeez, how are they gonna squeeze a whole 140hp out of that engine? Im assuming bigger intake, bigger fuel system, higher boost and premium fuel but i wonder how the internals wont nuke. It is a rather large displacement 4 cylinder. I would worry about the crankshaft handling 400hp

i just want a flat-6 diesel. dfi is a non-issue at cold-start on a diesel given you have glow plugs to preheat the chamber. more power for displacement (i'm a hauler not a sprinter). heavier parts last longer. etc. and oc a boxer doesn't have the balancing issues of a v or il.

If you VALUE your money NEVER BUY ANY SUBARU! We own a Subaru high end model, nothing but trouble, it was NEVER used for pulling or off road or abused! Planned engineering with major defects and MAJOR cost repairs: HEAD GASKET blowups (1 ply head gasket), GAS FILTER located in gas tank (who does that?), FROZEN front differential dipstick (Why This is Happening?), ENGINE oil consumption (Subaru decided to make the tolerance of the engine parts to lower fuel economy, yes check it out) nightmares with SOYA BASED wire harness that rodents love to chew and eat (WE have to put Mothballs and Dryer Sheets all the time to prevent another electrical failure), JERKY transmission, CHEAP bad design SEATS that will hurt you, DEFECTIVE, dangerous STEERING Column defect from the company, they EVEN put the WATER PUMP in the ENGINE (even need to replace timing chain and sprockets when replace the water pump), SPARKPLUGS removal nightmares, SQUEAKY and CLUNK noises… if you don’t believe me read blogs, read comments of other REAL LIFE owners nightmares with SUBARU! Fortunately we don’t have the CVT transmission!!! Check also CLASS- ACTION LAWSUITS, and ALL the RECALLS! If that is not enough read Subaru recalling 500,000 vehicles for defective airbags, AGAIN or car shutting down while driving, or steering column failure while driving and much more…Let me just state that there are plenty of real life owners data and other data that backs up everything. These are not subjective comments, I remain objective and discussed the drawbacks of buying a SUBARU. Second, we do own a Subaru and will kept me from buying another one. Before taking anything personally, step back and remind yourself that you can check all these information’s yourself and be wiser before buying a new vehicle one day!

first of all, the new fa24 isnt making 400 wheel. its making 400 CRANK. an EJ257 STI with stock turbo, bigger injectors, fuel pump, stock turbo, can easily make 400 at the crank. which equates to something like 300-340 wheel.
